🇲🇹 Malta VAT Calculator

Calculate Malta VAT on prices, discounted quantities and delivery charges.

A selected zero rate is not the same as tax-exempt registration or an input-tax entitlement. Verify the supply classification. Mixed-rate invoices need separate calculations. Values are rounded for display; line-by-line accounting may differ by a cent.

Methodology

How this calculator works

Multiply unit price by quantity, apply the percentage discount, then include delivery in the taxable base only when selected. For tax-exclusive prices, multiply that base by the selected tax rate. For inclusive prices, divide by one plus the rate to recover the net amount. Add non-taxable delivery after calculating the tax.

Worked example

Reading the result

At the standard 18% rate, EUR100 excluding tax becomes EUR118.00 including EUR18.00 tax. If the original price already includes tax, choose extraction mode instead of subtracting the percentage from the total.

Common questions

Frequently asked questions

What is the standard Malta VAT rate?+

The standard rate used here is 18%. Check the linked authority for reduced, zero-rated or exempt classifications.

How do I remove tax from an inclusive price?+

Divide the taxable inclusive price by one plus the decimal tax rate. The difference is the tax amount; multiplying the inclusive price by the tax rate overstates it.

Can I mix rates in one calculation?+

Use a separate calculation for each tax rate and add the totals. This form applies one rate to its taxable items and optionally delivery.

Does a zero rate mean I am exempt from registration?+

No. Supply rate, registration obligations and input-tax recovery are different questions.

Important scope

Rates must match the legal supply classification. This is invoice arithmetic, not a registration, exemption or recoverable-input-tax decision. Special-sector rates are not all listed; do not select a listed rate for an ineligible supply. This calculator provides a planning estimate, not personal financial or tax advice.
