Methodology

How this calculator works

The calculator adds annual income sources, subtracts entered deductions, then applies Uganda PAYE-style resident progressive bands converted from monthly thresholds into an annual planning view. It also compares estimated tax with tax already paid to show a possible balance due or refund estimate.

Worked example

Reading the result

A user with USh48,000,000 employment income and USh2,400,000 NSSF or retirement deductions can see taxable income, annual tax, monthly equivalent tax and whether PAYE already paid may be enough.

Accuracy checklist

Validate your Uganda estimate

  1. 1Match the income period, residency assumption and taxable-income basis shown on this page. Include only deductions, allowances and credits you can support, and compare the selected 2026 planning rules with Uganda Revenue Authority before using the estimate for payroll or filing.
  2. 2Read marginal tax, total liability, effective rate and tax already paid as different figures. A higher band normally applies only to the income slice inside that band, while withholding or instalments are compared with liability after the calculation rather than deducted from gross income.
  3. 3Reconcile the Uganda estimate with payslips, assessment notices and other taxable income. Bonuses, benefits, multiple jobs, filing status, special reliefs and pay-period rounding can make an annual planning result differ from payroll withholding or a final return.
  4. 4Save the inputs, selected options and calculation date with the result. If the estimate informs a payment, return, contract or application, rerun it when the 2026 planning rules or your underlying figures change and compare the updated breakdown with the earlier version.
