Methodology

How this calculator works

The calculator subtracts the down payment from property price to estimate loan amount. It uses a reducing-balance mortgage formula to calculate monthly principal and interest, then adds monthly service charges. It compares total monthly housing cost with income and existing debt to show a debt-to-income planning view, and compares the housing cost with current rent.

Worked example

Reading the result

For a QAR 1.2 million property with 25% down payment, the loan amount is QAR 900,000. At a 5% annual rate over 20 years, the calculator estimates principal and interest, then adds service charges to show monthly housing cost.
