Methodology

How this calculator works

The calculator measures service between the joining and last-working dates, subtracts unpaid leave days entered by the user, and converts eligible service into years. It uses 21 days of basic wage per eligible year as the default minimum planning model, with the option to enter a higher contractual gratuity day count. It then adds leave encashment, notice pay and unpaid salary and subtracts final deductions.

Worked example

Reading the result

With QAR 9,000 basic salary and about six eligible years of service, the default 21-day model gives about 126 wage-days. At QAR 300 per day, gratuity is about QAR 37,800 before unused leave, notice pay or deductions.

Accuracy checklist

Validate your Qatar estimate

  1. 1Use the legally relevant wage base, eligible service or working hours and the correct employment event. Total salary can include allowances that are not part of the statutory base, while unpaid absence, partial years or a change in contract terms may affect the eligible period.
  2. 2Review every intermediate result before relying on the total. Check the service dates or ordinary hourly rate, the multiplier or accrual rule, any cap, and whether the calculator has included only the scenarios supported by the Qatar gratuity planning scope.
  3. 3Compare the Qatar estimate with the contract, payroll records and Qatar Ministry of Labour official portal. Employment classification, termination reason, collective terms and authority interpretation can change an entitlement that a general calculator cannot decide.
  4. 4Save the inputs, selected options and calculation date with the result. If the estimate informs a payment, return, contract or application, rerun it when the Qatar gratuity planning rules or your underlying figures change and compare the updated breakdown with the earlier version.

Common questions

Frequently asked questions

Why does the calculator use exact dates?+

Exact dates avoid rounding service to a simple year count. The calculator converts service into days and applies the gratuity model proportionally.

Why is the default 21 days per year?+

The default reflects a common Qatar gratuity planning baseline of three weeks per eligible year. The field allows a higher contractual amount when applicable.

Is gratuity calculated on total package?+

This planning calculator uses basic salary as the wage base. Users should check their contract and official advice for exact wage treatment.

Does this replace legal advice?+

No. It is a planning tool to understand the components before reviewing official paperwork or professional advice.
