Methodology

How this calculator works

Employee EPF is estimated at 12% of basic salary plus DA, with optional voluntary contribution. Employer contribution is estimated at 12% and can be calculated on actual basic salary or the statutory wage ceiling.

Worked example

Reading the result

If monthly basic salary is ₹50,000, a 12% employee contribution is ₹6,000 per month. If the employer basis is capped at ₹15,000, employer contribution is estimated on that capped wage.

Accuracy checklist

Validate your India estimate

  1. 1Confirm the contribution base rather than assuming it equals total salary. Worker category, age, ordinary earnings, bonuses, minimum or maximum earnings and the Current EPF planning estimate period can change which percentage or cap applies.
  2. 2Keep employee and employer amounts separate. The employee share can reduce take-home cash, while the employer share normally affects employment cost or retirement funding and should not automatically be treated as a deduction from the employee's gross pay.
  3. 3Compare the India estimate with payroll records and Employees' Provident Fund Organisation. Voluntary contributions, exemptions, annual caps, pay-period rounding and year-to-date maximums may require a more detailed payroll or fund calculation.
  4. 4Save the inputs, selected options and calculation date with the result. If the estimate informs a payment, return, contract or application, rerun it when the Current EPF planning estimate rules or your underlying figures change and compare the updated breakdown with the earlier version.

Common questions

Frequently asked questions

Is employer PF always on full basic salary?+

Not always. Some cases use the statutory wage ceiling or employer policy limits. The calculator lets you choose a simplified basis.

Does this calculate pension split?+

No. It shows combined employer EPF-style contribution, not EPS and EDLI allocation.

Can I add voluntary PF?+

Yes. Enter an additional employee contribution percentage above 12%.
