Barbados: tax, pay and borrowing explained
Plan 2026 resident income tax using the BBD25,000 allowance and revised rates. Keep annual filing credits separate from payslip deductions.
Rules reviewed 24 October 2026. These tools are planning estimates within the stated scope.
Use income-year 2026 rates
The resident employee estimate starts with the basic BBD25,000 personal allowance. It applies 11.5% to the first BBD50,000 of taxable income and 27.5% above that. A BBD60,000 annual gross income, with no other deductions, leaves BBD35,000 taxable and produces BBD4,025 PAYE. Special pensioner allowances and other regimes are outside this basic model.
Keep CIC separate from PAYE
The optional Compensatory Income Credit is a filing-stage adjustment for qualifying resident employees within its income range. It is not a reason for an employer to stop deducting the ordinary PAYE shown on a payslip. The calculator displays annual PAYE before the credit and annual liability after the selected credit separately. Do not select CIC if you are self-employed, a company director or otherwise outside the eligibility rules.
Confirm national insurance and other deductions
Income tax alone does not determine cash received. Use your actual employee national-insurance and other deductions in the salary planner. The result is an annualised monthly average; a bonus, change of employer or payroll timing can affect individual periods. Employer contributions belong to employment cost, not automatically to employee take-home deductions.
Use the correct VAT classification
The invoice tool offers 17.5% standard VAT and a zero-rate option for qualifying supplies. It deliberately does not assign special-sector rates from the name of a product. A BBD117.50 standard-rate inclusive price contains BBD17.50 VAT. If a supply is exempt or subject to a special rate not listed, verify its treatment before using this calculator.
Compare the whole borrowing cost
The loan and mortgage tools separate principal, interest, initial fees and ongoing costs. They show the amortisation schedule and how extra payments change the term. Use a Barbados lender quote for the rate and obtain actual purchase taxes and legal costs for a property budget. The example rate is illustrative; local currency does not make the assumed rate a current market offer.
Check your inputs with the right source
Use official guidance to confirm tax status and deductions, a payslip for employee contributions, and a lender quote for interest and fees. Keep these separate from hypothetical scenarios.
