Methodology

How this calculator works

The calculator converts basic pay to a monthly amount, applies the 2026 insurable-earnings limits to employee and employer pension contributions, and caps the entered provident-fund deduction at 16.5% of basic pay. Allowances and taxable benefits join ordinary chargeable income. Qualifying bonus within 15% of annual basic salary is estimated separately at 5%; any excess joins ordinary PAYE income. Resident PAYE then uses the Act 1178 monthly bands effective from 1 September 2026.

Worked example

Reading the result

For GH₵8,000 monthly basic pay with no extras, employee contribution is GH₵440 and ordinary PAYE is calculated on GH₵7,560. A qualifying bonus is displayed separately so its 5% tax is not incorrectly pushed through the ordinary bands.

Common questions

Frequently asked questions

What PAYE schedule does this use?+

It uses the resident monthly bands published by GRA for the 2026 year of assessment under Act 1178, effective 1 September 2026.

Does SSNIT use every part of gross pay?+

The default estimate starts from basic pay and applies the 2026 GH₵587.80 minimum and GH₵69,000 maximum insurable-earnings base when pay is above zero.

How is bonus treated?+

The calculator estimates qualifying bonus within 15% of annual basic salary at 5%. Any amount above the remaining limit joins ordinary PAYE income.

Can my payslip differ?+

Yes. Relief approval, benefit valuation, overtime classification, pension scheme records, payroll timing and rounding can change an employer's final result.
